I Love My Job!!!
I have been on the go this past month. This is good??
After getting myself some nice new equipment I had a blast at the weddings. I did some very cool pictures. I have entered some of the pictures for the Portrait photographer of the year competition.
It is absolutely amazing the difference it makes in the quality of your pictures if you make use of proper professional equipment. Not that I can say my pictures were not professional before, I can just admit that they have moved up a few notches in quality.
The new "toys" just make it much easier to take those WOW shots. It also makes the hole photo shoot shorter, because things tend to work first time.
I am in the proccess of building my own professional photography studio. This studio will have all the neccesory equipment and be available at a moments notice. I will keep the info flowing regarding the progress. It should be ready for action by the end of January 2008. Please watch this space for futher progress.

Wedding Photography 101 (for the bride and groom to be)
Wedding photography used to be an art practiced by a few specialized ‘artists’. These ‘artists’ were professional photographers. They understood photography, light and the dark-room; yes they were the old fashioned film photographers.
They had to be specialists in their field, because they only had one chance to get that perfect shot. They had to ensure that all the camera settings, the location and the light were absolutely perfect. Because of these factors you hardly ever found a “fly by night” in this business. They were dedicated and honorable artists of their trade.
BANG!! and the digital revolution started. Now every 2nd person could own a digital camera, and yes, now every 2nd person became a professional wedding photographer.
This ‘problem’ makes the decision, for the bride-to-be and her fiancé, very difficult. They are overwhelmed with information regarding photographers and all the different wedding photography packages on offer, and of course, each of these has its own price tag.
The question to ask is how to make the decision of which photographer and which package at what price should they look for. This is a difficult question??
I would say that you should remember just one fact: After all the festivities are done and everything returns back to normal and all the bills have been paid, only the photographs and the DVD, should you decide to get one, remains. This statement speaks for itself.
For some reason couples always leaves the smallest cut of the wedding budget for the photographs. Now it is time to start hunting for a photographer and what happens, we look for the guys that charge us the least amount for the wedding??
This is normally where your headaches will start. Remember, should things go astray here you will not have any photos to share with your loved ones in years to come.
My advice:
· Start by setting out your budget. Decide how much you are will to spend and then start looking.
· Look on the internet. It is easy and you will get a number of photographers listed.
· Ask friends if they don’t know of a reputable photographer.
· Ask the photographer to send you a written quotation.
· Make an appointment with at least three or four photographers that fall into your price range.
· Look at the selected photographer’s entire portfolio’s before you make your final decision. Don’t decide to go with the first photographer you meet.
· Make sure he is a reputable business man. Ask him if he has a reference you can call. Even if you don’t call, just get a number. If he can’t supply you with a reference, be careful.
· Ask the photographer if he has a contract that you will have to sign. If not, worry!! The contract should be in place to ensure that you know exactly what you will get and how much you will pay. It also covers the photographer against clients that want more than they pay for.
· After you have gone through all of these points, make your selection and you should have a very happy day with lots of good memories.
I hope this will ease some of the pains of getting a good wedding photographer. Should you have any questions regarding this topic, please feel free to get into contact with me via my website at: www.saphoto.co.za or e-mail me at: daniel@saphoto.co.za.
May you have a very happy wedding day, Daniel Haywood
